We are focusing our attention on the most pressing health care issues impacting South Carolinians today.
PRIORITIES
Directing support where it's most impactful
At the Foundation, we give strategically, with an eye toward our priorities. We're supporting community partners across the Palmetto State to improve health outcomes and decrease health disparities, particularly for the economically vulnerable.
Oral Health
Improving the oral health care system by increasing access, enhancing workforce development and supporting quality and innovation.
Mental Health
Building resilience and well-being for youth and families by strengthening the mental health workforce, improving quality and coordination of mental health care and enhancing collaboration in communities to support families.
Diabetes
In partnership with Diabetes Free SC, we’re aligning the efforts of diabetes-focused community partners across the Palmetto State.
Evolving Approaches
A special priority of the Foundation is to support and develop solutions to barriers that can keep individuals and communities from accessing healthcare.
The Foundation is funding projects in the area of Evolving Approaches that aim to accelerate progress on complex issues, amplify scalable work and allow our grantees to try different approaches to get better outcomes.
That means expanding the healthcare workforce, using technology to improve efficiencies and using data to measure and drive change.

Funding Categories
Even if we limit our focus to our three Health Priorities, there are so many organizations that are worthy of support. Because of this, we also focus on specific funding categories where we believe the Foundation's support can do the most good.
Provide Access to Care
Grants in this area increase accessibility of health care services, allowing the Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina Foundation to support safety-net providers.
Build a Stronger Workforce for Health
Through this category, we can help increase the number of health professionals and improve the skills of existing health professionals.
Improve the Quality and Value of Health and Health Care
By supporting quality improvement projects, we can yield cost and resource efficiencies.
Invest in the Health and Well-Being of South Carolina Children and Families
We support projects that tackle barriers to good health and lifelong well-being that begin in childhood.
Special Projects
These special projects may fall outside our established areas of focus, but would greatly improve the health needs of the economically vulnerable population of South Carolina.
